AC Milan seal loan deal for Manchester City captain Kyle Walker

The 34-year-old defender heads to Italy with an option for a permanent transfer in the summer.

AC Milan have reached an agreement to sign Manchester City captain Kyle Walker on loan for the rest of the season, with an option to make the move permanent in the summer.

Walker, who has made 316 appearances for City since joining from Tottenham in 2017 for £50 million, will now undergo a medical in Italy.

The 34-year-old defender has played a key role in City’s six Premier League title triumphs under Pep Guardiola.

His last appearance for City came in a match against West Ham on January 4. Shortly afterwards, Walker informed Guardiola of his desire to explore a move abroad. Despite earlier links to the Saudi Pro League, the England international has opted for a switch to Serie A.

Walker, capped 93 times for England, has been a prominent figure at City, serving as joint-captain since 2023. He was part of a five-player leadership group elected by his teammates ahead of the 2023-24 season.

Meanwhile, AC Milan had also been linked with Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford. However, Italian registration rules restrict the club to signing only one UK-based player during the current transfer window.

Manchester City, on the other hand, have been active in the January market, spending approximately £123 million on three signings. These include Egyptian forward Omar Marmoush from Frankfurt for £59 million, Vitor Reis from Palmeiras for £30 million, and Abdukodir Khusanov from Lens for £33.6 million.
