Born in Bolgatanga, a city renowned for its rich cultural heritage and vibrant festivals, Alhassan’s childhood was steeped in the traditions of the Frafra people.
His parents Mohammed Alhassan Andani (father), Alhassan Nafisa (mother) instilled in him a deep appreciation for learning and music.
By age seven, he was already mesmerizing peers with his improvised drumming on empty buckets during breaks at St. Anthony of Padua International School, where he completed his primary and junior high education.
At 15, Alhassan’s quest for knowledge led him to Osei Tutu II College in Kumasi, the heartland of Ashanti culture. Though he spent only a year there, Kumasi’s dynamic music scene left an indelible mark. He immersed himself in highlife rhythms and began writing lyrics that blended proverbs from his Northern heritage with contemporary themes.
However, family circumstances prompted a transfer to Tamale Islamic Science Senior High School, where he completed his studies.
In Tamale, the call to prayer echoing over the savanna and the hypnotic beats of “dondo” drums deepened his connection to his roots, inspiring his stage name, High Spirit nod to his mission to uplift souls through music.
